First Step has a daily transport service using the group’s own mini-bus which is equipped with a range of fully- adjustable child-size safety seats with belts for all passengers.
Transport is allocated giving priority to families with no access to their own transport although it is not always possible to make the service available to all wanting it.Consideration has to be given to location and travelling times as it is felt undesirable for any child to spend too long travelling. Occasional help may also be offered for temporary circumstances, for example illness, car breakdown, new baby etc.
The First Step bus was jointly financed by The Lords’ Taverners, First Step, The Romford Lions, and Chase Fleming Asset Management. Further funding to help with running costs was received from Havering Early Years Development and Childcare Partnership.
